A Quick Noob Guide to Airsoft

A niche sport played widely across the globe but a relatively new pastime in Ireland (circa 11 years) played with replica equipment of the world’s armed forces. Involves player to player tagging (similar to Paintball but with 6mm non-metal BBs instead of the larger paintball). Airsoft is considered more realistic than paintball using RIFs (Replica Imitation Firearms) versus a paintball marker. It is also less powerful so once you are covered up, you won’t be left with bruises or marks! Airsoft can be played with mesh masks instead of glass lens which means your mask doesn’t fog! Lastly as unlimited ammo is standard with all our packages it doesn’t hurt your pocket compared with the typical cost of going paintballing.

Legislation

Airsoft is a niche sport recognised by the Confederation of Irish Sports. Its representative body is the Irish Airsoft Association or (IAA). In the Republic of Ireland Airsoft is a fairly new phenomenon having only recently become a feasible pursuit with the introduction of the Criminal Justice Act of 2006, despite being a widespread and immensely popular pursuit in many other countries worldwide.

Although all sports have cheaters, airsoft doesn’t do enough to prevent cheating.

Throughout your airsoft experience, you have “accidentally” not felt the hit due to adrenaline. In an intense competition, that adrenaline is ten-fold.

If there’s no systematic way to prevent cheaters like laser tags, there will be cheaters. And you probably don’t like watching a pro-game knowingly that someone is cheating.

Gun Barrel

Dirt and shattered BBs get stuck in your barrel over time, which can lead to jam/dry fire later on. Be sure to clean your barrel after every airsoft game using your cleaning rod, a piece of soft cloth, and pure silicon oil to help remove the dirt and smooth your barrel

Also, check your barrel to make sure that it’s not dented. A slight imperfection in your barrel will lead to a drastic difference in performance. For barrel types, you should get a tight bore steel barrel over a brass/aluminum barrel because they are more likely to bend and break

As for barrel diameter, it depends on where you’re playing. 6.03mm is suited for indoor whereas 6.05mm and over is for outdoor. The farther away your usual target is, the larger of a barrel your hop-up will need to reach that target. If your barrel is too small, your hop-up will not be able to spin your BBs to help it fight gravity and air friction. More at T.A.S.

Be Aware of Your Laws and Regulations

You must be aware of your federal and local rules governing the purchasing, carrying as well as the use of airsoft guns. Don’t put yourself at risk with the law. Call your local police department to learn more

Public Carry

Not everyone will know that your airsoft gun is a replica. Do not showcase your airsoft gun anywhere in public where people may mistake for a real firearm

Even with an orange tip or bright color airsoft gun, a law enforcement officer is not going to take any chances after seeing you carrying what they believe could be a dangerous firearm

For your sake, carry your gun inside a bag and away from sight.

Penalty

There are penalties if you break the law in California. For first offenders, it is $1,000, $5,000 for a second time, and for every subsequent violation, the penalty is $10,000
